Books of 2011

January 2nd, 2012

So it seems that this is becoming a ‘reading’ blog. Weird. And what could be less interesting than READING about someone else’s READING? I’ll get to work on that, and post some actual content.  :)

But I am compelled to write this post, because I’ve been writing these book summaries for a little while now: 2010, (where did 2009 go?) and 2008. Weird that this blog has been going on for 5 years.

    Emily:

I hope your stimulator is still keeping most of the migraine monsters at bay!! Sorry to read in other posts that weather still is a problem. As always I came away from your book list with several I will have to read!!!

Have had myoclonus myself for ages. For me, sometimes I’m a little bit of a jerk, sometimes I’m a big jerk!! (a little myoclonus humor for ya!!!) Some medications (especially for me tri-cyclic antidepressants they use for all kinds of problems like hives or headaches) make it much worse.

I read Hungers Games also and liked it. She did a good job making something interesting happen at a chapter transition to make you keep reading.

I’m shocked you read V for Vendetta since it is rated R. I won’t tell on you though.

I’m reading Crime and Punishment now and am surprised how much I find it intriguing.

But is your list in order of best to worst? I’ll read your #1 book every year if this is an ordered list. If not, tough to pick although I did read your Good Reads reviews on some books I was considering.

Jason, it’s not ordered best to worst. It’s chronologically ordered. Which means nothing to anyone, except that it’s how I’ve kept track of the books I read. Since they’re not rated by the numbers, I usually just give my top choices at the end. Probably if I had to choose ONE book that I would recommend to everyone, it’d be Nothing to Envy. It was really a fascinating book.

I really liked V for Vendetta & have been trying to get into graphic novels.

Have you read anything good about the Yakuza?

  5. Emily on January 5, 2012 2:27 pm

Jason, I’ve only read bad things about them. Hope you’re not considering membership.

I am in awe at your list. Going to check out Nothing to Envy this week. Thank you!
