Thoughts on Chocolate – or, more accurately, a life without.

April 4th, 2009

Truly, I can do without chocolate. As far as something to not be able to eat, it could be much worse. For 1, my ‘reaction’ is a worse migraine. When I was normal, it would trigger a migraine. This isn’t an allergy or life threatening.
And so, it seems an awful lot like whining to even complain, doesn’t it?
Let us continue anyway.
I would much rather not be able to eat chocolate than other things — what if I was unable to eat dairy, wheat, EGGS! These kinds of things are not only great, but they are IN EVERYTHING!

And so avoidance is much easier – are these chocolate cookies? Yes or no. Honestly, I could live the rest of my life without chocolate. There are so many other delicious flavors, I will miss it — but not too much.

Here is my problem — ice cream.
I love ice cream more than I should. It’s ridiculous, really. But I love ice cream, nonetheless. My favorite flavor before all this was Moose Tracks. Delicious. Fudge swirls and mini peanut butter cups. What could be better? Nothing, I tell you. *le sigh*

But even without Moose Tracks, life goes on. What the problem is, is that ice cream makers put chocolate chips or fudge swirls into EVERYTHING and ANY flavor! This leaves me with the choices like vanilla (bean please, no french) and strawberry. Really, I could use better options.

So my question to you is this: what is your favorite ice cream flavor that does NOT have any chocolate in it?

Oh man… that’s hard! Everything that comes to mind has chocolate. How about praline pecan? You could try to get into the sherbets!

    Baileys flavoured icecream
Raspberry with bits of merringe in
    Rum and raisin
    Strawberries and cream

You might need to find somewhere that does icecreams for tourists there will be more there than you’ll find in the supermarket freezers

hmmmmmm. YOu know I like any fudgy, nutty , deep chocolatey thing. It prob doesn’t help that you are in a family with so many chocolate fiends, does it?

I have had some really good lemon ice cream. Strawberry just doesn’t do much for me.

Um… the kind with only caramel in it. Or the kind with caramel swirls with chocolate caramels and you can pick out the chocolate caramels and give those to the husband.

But with vanilla, you can add anything your heart desires. Caramel. bananas. Jam. Peaches. Cobbler. Pie. make your own syrup from fresh berries! You have so many more options than us people who can’t see beyond chocolate! :)

Hmm….I guess dark chocolate is out too?

    Bubble Gum
    Pineapple Coconut

Wow. This is a hard one.

I *love* cake batter ice cream! If you haven’t tried it before, I think you should :)

I also like cake batter ice cream, but the only time I’ve seen it at the grocery store it has streaks of chocolate through it! And you know I can’t always go to Coldstone, as much as I’d like to. Maybe I could buy pints of it there?

Sarah have you seen it in the grocery store?

I have seen it in stores before, and I’ve had one of the store brands, but I can’t remember which one it was. I looked on the Dreyer’s website and found that they sold some, though — I don’t think I have had theirs specifically, but I figure it might be worth a try.

This website has information about the ingredients and nutritional facts, and you can even search to see which stores near you sell it.

    Hope this helps!

Oh, as I looked a little more, I also found that Blue Bunny has a cake batter ice cream, too. I don’t know if you’ll mind things like “blue frosting swirls” and “sequin candy confetti”…I guess I haven’t been able to find a plain cake batter ice cream, so sorry about that. I’ll let you know if I find anything more :)

Cake batter. Its my very favorite. If you like that type of thing, you might have to try different brands. Oh man, oh man. I l.o.v.e. it!

My very favorites are Praline Pecan (or anything with caramel and nuts) and triple berry cheesecake(something like that) from Albertson’s. Yum!

Actually, I share your love of Moose Tracks!

I don’t know if you have a Braum’s where you’re at, but if you do, you have to look for Sicilian Orange Sherbet, its amazing. If you don’t have a Braum’s around you, you should stop if you EVER see one and check if they have the flavor.

Wow. Being without chocolate would be so hard! I do admire your attitude, though. As for chocolate-less ice cream, I’d go with sherbets and sorbets. They’re usually better for you anyway and have a lot fewer calories and a lot less fat. My favorites: orange sherbet and raspberry sorbet. Yum!

    Raspberry cheesecake, mmm
