will the real sassy lime please stand up?

February 28th, 2006

that’s right, ladies and gentlemen. i’m feeling pretty good about myself right now. i just got back from walmart, where that store (or evil corporation, whichever you choose) paid ME 12 cents to take a bottle of Ken’s Lite Italian Salad Dressing off their hands. truly. i am the master of coupon clipping. (no, not really, my muum is; i bow at your feet, coupon guru). :)

just had to share my great find! $2 off coupon; and the dressing only cost $1.88. :)

The Sassy Lime

February 28th, 2006

some of you may have wondered what the name of my blog means; most of you probably haven’t. but in any case, i’m going to tell you!

when i was in high school, i was in marching band; all 4 years. the first 3 years, i was a part of the drum line; we were called the pit. we didn’t march, b/c our instruments were too heavy/bulky to move around, but our drum instructor wanted them as a part of the band and drumline. so in any case, i played the xylophone, marimba, etc….we had lots of other fun percussion toys too, and one year timpani. SO, this is all background.

every year the drumline made a shirt; i don’t remember if all the sections did this or not, but the drumline always did. on the front was some kind of graphic; always drawn by one of our bass drummers, eric (he later went to art school, haven’t talked to him since) — so anyways, on the back, listed by section, were all of our names. one year, the guys who made the shirt decided to do palindromes for everyone’s names. (palindromes, for those who might be racking their brains right now, read the same forwards and backwards). so this took them quite a while to come up with; there were probably 40 or so in the line at that time……i had no part in figuring these out. just thought i’d put that out there, b/c i didn’t have the brain power for it. ;) my palindrome-name was Emily’s Sassy Lime. yes, backwards it reads Emily’s Sassy Lime — so anyways, a few months later i was getting an email address for the first time – this must have been my freshman or sophomore year in HS. and i couldn’t think of anything good for awhile, when finally i decided on emilysassylime@whatever.com. before you protest, i realize that emily sassy lime DOESN”T read backwards the same; it’s missing one s. but you can’t use apostrophes, so it wouldn’t have looked right. so it’s a quasi-almost palindrome. that was more than 10 years ago, and it’s just stuck with me. so my husband helped me figure out my blog name; and he felt this was the most catchy version of Emily’s Sassy Lime.

so you see, it has nothing to do with limes or sassiness really. it has everything to do with ME! haha. it’s all about me….. j/k

now you know! (and knowing’s half the battle….)

February 28th, 2006

So i was visiting all my normal blogs today, ho-dee-hum….and i get to dooce, read through it of course; turns out she opened up comments today (they are usually CLOSED) – -and LITERALLY, there were 1214 comments posted. WHAT?!?!?!? one thousand, two hundred and fourteen comments!?!?!?!?! i couldn’t believe it. i mean, i know dooce is big, but i’m thinking, after the first 50 or so, does anyone *really* have the time to keep reading about people’s choices for working or staying home with kids? the subject interests me as much as anyone else, but sheesh. i was blown away.

anyways, on to me ;) : am feeling considerably better today (than yesterday) we had some rain, and lots of wind last night — which explains why my had was so bad yesterday (human barometer, remember?) — i was awake last night for a long time until i decided i needed to take something; acute meds for the migraine. once i did that, i drifted off to sleep quickly. i’m still feeling pretty good, 12 hours later. however, due to many days of feeling BAD, there are dishes stacked up, sheets need changing, food needs buying, etc. you get the message.

and today’s the last day of february – hooray!!! bring on spring weather!!!

monday, monday…..so good to me

February 27th, 2006

i’ve hit a blogging block. not that i ever write about anything exceptionally interesting or …..coherent. but yesterday i hit this block and thought, ‘i can just write though it…’ yeah, right. yesterday’s entry was bleh. i want to feel like i’ve accomplished something when i blog, not that i sent some nuclear waste out into the world wide web. you know what i mean?

20 minutes later…..ah. i decided to join another group online; it’s called readers anonymous. being in bed ‘resting’ with migraines so much, i find i’m reading much more than i ever have before. i check out probably a dozen books from the library, and go there FREQUENTLY. but i need some ideas for good reads. otherwise i just pick out stupid stuff. (not on purpose, but because i don’t have many ‘favorite’ authors.). …. while i was living with my in-laws this past summer, my mother in law helped me find lots of great reads. now, on my own……i’m struggling! so i’ll have to tell you how that goes. i’m excited about it.

in case you’re curious, the other online group i’m a part of is called the chronic pain support group. it’s been more than a year that i’ve had these migraines; and for those of you who don’t know my history, i have a migraine every day, from when i wake up in the morning to when i go to sleep at night. i’m not fishing for sympathy, but that’s why i joined the group, so i could have some ‘friends’ who understood firsthand what i was dealing with.

that’s me on this monday! i’m gonna go rest in bed and read. literally. this = my life! :)

it’s SUNDAY!

February 26th, 2006

nothing really new. headache has been better and worse, varying all day. so stupid. we did have a yummy dinner tonight; from the freezer cooking extravaganza 2006 — funeral potatoes. i’ve mainly been laying in bed resting all day, whenever i wasn’t at church. whew. what a day.

february is almost over, which means warmer weather is on the way. it was in the low 60’s today, which means SPRING has nearly SPRUNG! i wore a pink dress to church that my mother-in-law made for me last summer; it was a bridesmaid dress for my brother-in-law’s (her son, my husband’s brother) wedding. and let me tell you, i got more compliments on that dress than i think i ever have on any single article of clothing! i know you read this, dear mother in law; they love the pink dress!

signing off for now friends,
emilinguini

it’s MEME time!

February 24th, 2006

we had some friends over for dinner last night; it’s too long since we’ve seen them, so i was really pleased they could make it. they’re a couple, him i’m very good friends with, and her i only know b/c he’s been dating her for the past 7 months. love her, tho of course. anyways, so it was super fun to hang out with them; i made a roast in the crock pot for dinner, then we played a game of scattergories, ate some apple pie she made with ice cream, and them went to temple square for a movie. such a fun night.

however, i spent all of yesterday cooking and cleaning and running errands….ugh. i’m wiped out completely today. so here i lay, in bed. resting. no fun, but obviously what my body needs. tonight we’re to go to a dinner party for my husband’s colleagues at school. i need to get feeling better for that!

so the dr.’s appointment….it went well, and instead of trying another medicine right now, we’re going to do another test. i haven’t had any tests done since a year ago, when we did the MRI, EEG, EKG, etc. sooooo a week from today i’m going to have a spinal tap done. this is meant to check the pressure of my spinal fluid around my brain (if it’s too great, it could be causing these headaches), and to be sure that there’s no infection in the fluid. again, if there’s an infection, some types are benign except for the symptom of a constant headache. AKA me.

i’ll be honest with you, blogworld, i’m more than a little nervous about the spinal tap. when he first mentioned it, my hands started sweating. i said something like ‘i’ve heard that spinal taps are rather painful. is that true?’ he said, ‘no, not at all. it’s like drawing blood. sometimes it goes well, other times it takes more tries and is more uncomfortable.’ i’m thinking. uh huh. i sure hope you’re right. of course i’ll give you a full report after the fact. ;)

p.s. for a hilarious commentary on women, go see Snickerdoodles’ post today!

What’s for Dinner Wednesday?

February 22nd, 2006

***update**** my sister has posted a freezer cooking recipe/summary at her site!! go check it out!

Well, we’re going to try this again. Although, hardly anyone actually wrote in the comments what THEY were having for dinner, but just commented on what I was having for dinner. Not the point, people! :)

Sooooooooo head on over to Krisco at Crib Ceiling, when i was posting this, her what’s for dinner wednesday wasn’t up yet, but it is her creation! besides, lots of good stuff to read there in any case.

on to business. :) i haven’t decided what’s for dinner tonight (*possibly meatloaf), so i’ll just tell you what we had for dinner last night! we had a fabulous and easy soup. recipe is courtesy of my sister (noticing a theme here? do i cook anything original? no.)
it’s tortilla soup. here’s the ingredients:
1 can black beans, undrained
1 can corn
1 can chicken broth (or just some)
1 can tomato sauce
1 can green chiles
some bell peppers, chopped up
some salsa
some chicken
Heat and stir together…..serve with tortilla chips, cheese and sour cream.

Here’s what i love about this recipe; it’s still good even if you don’t have all the ingredients. we had vegetarian soup last night b/c i didn’t want to cook any chicken. :) we also didn’t have any bell peppers, so we didn’t have those either. my sister’s kids don’t eat anything spicy, so they don’t use chiles or salsa. get the idea?

please leave me your meals in comments! tell me about what you had last night, or what you’re having tonight! would love to hear your ideas…..

for all you moms out there….

February 22nd, 2006
I got this joke in my email today; can't help but thinkthat some of you moms would get a laugh out of it. :)

I was out walking with my 4 year old daughter. She picked upsomething off the ground and started to put it in her mouth.I took the item away from her and I asked her not to dothat.

"Why?" my daughter asked.

"Because it's been laying outside, you don't know where it'sbeen, it's dirty and probably has germs," I replied.

At this point, my daughter looked at me with totaladmiration and asked, "Wow! How do you know all this stuff?"

"Uh," I was thinking quickly, "All moms know this stuff. It's on the Mommy Test. You have to know it, or they don'tlet you be a Mommy." We walked along in silence for 2 or 3minutes, but she was evidently pondering this newinformation.

"Oh, I get it!" she beamed, "So if you don't pass the test, you have to be the daddy."

"Exactly," I replied back with a big smile on my face andjoy in my heart.
