a lengthy update!

February 12th, 2010

Thanks for your great ideas on nausea. Things are improved — I met a woman recently with hypoglycemia. She has to eat a small meal every two hours. The more we talked, the more animated she got, saying that this could really help me! I thought it was worth a try. So I eat my normal meals, but eat a snack every two hours. Doesn’t help the headaches, but it does improve the nausea most of the time. Hooray!

I was talking to my sister the other day and she said it had been a while since I wrote/put up pictures on my blog. It’s true. I feel sometimes as if telling you the events of my life is a little depressing. The last five years reads a lot like this ‘We tried _____, it didn’t work. Now we’re going to try _____.’

But nonetheless, there is so much good to tell and I need to continue to update my family on my health (one of the main reasons for starting this blog), but I will also try to write about other stuff going on. Thanks for sticking with me.

What is happening now in the world of doctor’s appointments…I went in Tuesday and we were going to do more trigger point injections (in the back), but talked about it and since they hadn’t been working we didn’t do anymore. So that was good, and we just made it into a followup appointment  about the Botox. The Botox worked for two days and then…nothing. I caught him up on that and we made a game plan for both the head and the back. We wanted to attack the back first, and so this morning we did injections into my sacroiliac joints. I don’t know if you know what the sacroiliac (SI) joint is, but it’s where the sacrum (the very bottom of the spine) meets the pelvis…the bottom of the pelvis are the ilium. Anyways, it’s the biggest joint in the body (interesting, right?), and takes all your weight when you walk and sit. Which is why those things hurt me so much. So he did some tests and found that my SI joints were inflamed and dysfunctional in some way.

The injections went well – these have to be done under Xray, and while I was under there he could see arthritis in both joints (more in the left) and the left was over-rotated. And so, I am hopeful that we have finally hit on something that will help. This should help with the pain and physical therapy should help get my back into better shape. Time will tell!

So I have two really good friends – we get together for lunch every couple of weeks. Last weekend (Wednesday to Sunday) we went to St. George, Utah. Those of you out of state are probably not familiar with St. George. The most important thing to know is that it is 4 hours SOUTH of Salt Lake City. So… warmer.

I promise to return to the vacation footage shortly…

but this happened yesterday and I really think you should see it. Especially if you could use a laugh.

tales of tomatoes i have known…

August 10th, 2008

well due to a auspicious comment left by my muum, i came to realize that my tiny orange tomatoes were actually ripe! what great news! the only thing is, their size left a little to be desired. when i say tiny….well, have a look for yourself:

luckily, they were delicious. also fortunate is the fact that i have a few more still on the plant – they are green, but soon will be ripe! and a little bigger.

then, just a few days later i bought some tomatoes at the store. i was cutting them up for some sauteed vegetables, when look who was looking back at me!?! this evil little grin –

reminded me of caryn’s happy bell pepper. er, that would be ‘The Placid Pepper of Eternal Happiness’. she’s a writer, after all. when she writes a blog entry, it sounds good!

the weekend

June 16th, 2007

spencer and i babysat my sister’s kids for a few hours tonight; they had a short date. it was fun to hang out with them (as it always is), and they cracked me up (as they always do).

they see me at least once a week – my husband, much less frequently. so we’re sitting around, and i ask T if she’d like to come sit with me. they both start climbing on him, and she kind of shakes her head sadly at me. E says, ‘it’s just that spencer’s much more funner.’ like – sorry, we kind of like you, but he is THE BOMB! why would we sit with you when HE is here?

hilarious.

a father’s day/june birthday extravaganza is going on tomorrow, so i’m looking forward to seeing everyone, as i always do. hoping they’ll be able to put a dent in the massive quantity of dill dip i have. :)

and as for this picture :

the edge has suggested it might be a HUGE bug. it’s possible. i can’t remember at all. :)

May 10th, 2007

hello friends!

we’re visiting Austin, and i’m loving it. we had lunch at Rudy’s – delicious barBQ. and then this evening, we went to the capitol. we were walking around, when 2 guys (about our age, mid-early 20s) come up to us and says ‘hey man, would you take our picture?’

i kind of laugh and say, ‘gee i wonder why they asked YOU’ — my husband is a hobbyist photographer, and was carrying one of those SLRs around his neck at the time.

he comes back and says, they asked you first. i say, what? he says, they called you ma’am.

and i said — i’ve never been called a ma’am before. (true story)

spencer says ‘you’re in Texas.’

welcome to the south, baby!

the Soundtrack of my Life

April 16th, 2007

i ripped this one off from Walking Katetastrophe, a blog i’ve been reading (and loving) lately.

if my life was a movie…

if my life was a movie, what would my soundtrack be?

so, here’s how it works:
1. open your music library
2. put it on shuffle
3. press play
4. for every question, type the song that’s playing
5. when you go to a new question, press the next button
6. don’t lie and try to pretend you’re cool.

opening credits: “Two at a Time” by Guster — very chill. not one of my favorites by them, but hey i guess i’m not choosing, right? :o )

waking up: “Train Wreck” by Sarah McLachlan – hahaha. funny b/c when i have to get up early for something, it often feels like a train wreck – ask my hubby! but in all seriousness, i love this song. i love pretty much all of her songs. this song is from afterglow, one of her newer albums. best line? — ‘in your sweet embrace all my pain’s erased’.

first day at school: “Next Year, Baby” by Jamie Cullum. i adore this song, but must take issue with his idea to ’spend less money on shoes’ next year. if anything, i strive for constant growth in my shoe budget! if you like jazz, norah jones’ style, you should check this guy out. he’s great. what does this have to do with the first day of school? ummm we’ll say i’ve given up before i started – and i’m just lookin’ to next year. :)

in love: “Long way Down” by Guster (again). get it? long way to FALL in love? huh?

fight song: “Have a Cigar” by Pink Floyd — this does seem to have some fightin’ words.

breaking up: “Maddest King of Love’ by Big Bad VooDoo Daddy. ‘the maddest kind of love is a love you know won’t last’. what more needs to be said?

prom: “Hello, Goodbye” by the Beatles.

life’s ok: Appassionata Sonata in F minor op. 57 (mvt 3) by Beethoven (performed by Vladamir Horowitz). man, how can life NOT be ok when you’re listening to Horowitz playing the piano?

mental breakdown: “White Ladder” by David Gray. i wonder if we have anything else by him. or where we got this one. weird. however, the phrase ‘white ladder’ brings to mind a stealthy escape from the sanatorium (perhaps sheets used for the ‘ladder’?) and strait jackets. perfection.

driving: “Only You” by Harry Connick Jr. This is a GREAT driving song, if only because it’s laid back and relaxing. sigh. i guess i’d rather dance w/my hubby to this one than drive, though. if i could choose. ‘you’re my dream come true, my one and only you.’

flashback: “Crazy for the Girl” by Evan & Jaron. i don’t know where this song came from either. but i DO know that it came out sometime ….. 5+ years ago (?) so that’s perfect for a flashback. :)

getting back together: “El Condor Pasa (If I could)” by Simon and Garfunkel. i do love me some S&G, but this is not one of their best (IMHO).

birth of child: Piano Trio in d minor by Faure, performed by the Roth trio. this whole thing seems a little… anxious. i’d rather have something soothing and/or happy to represent the birth of a child. can i have a recount?

wedding: “Your Winter” by Sister Hazel. no, dude it was october. we got married in october. btw there’s way too much i’m sorry, pain, and hurting in this song for a wedding song. again, we need more upbeat, lovey-dovey type music for this one.

final battle: “Tonada de la Luna Llena” by Marta Gomez. this is like if the final battle of my movie was a dance-off. sweet! my spanish is rough, but i’m pretty sure this song is about a full moon.

death scene: “Reluctant Hero” by Cheri Magill. a great song from a great singer. ‘it’s time that i resign as your reluctant hero’. we got her cd when we saw her live at BYU – we enjoyed her set and liked her CD even better.

funeral song: “You Don’t Know Me” by Harry Connick Jr ‘and anyone can tell; you think you know me well. but you don’t know me. kind of a depressing funeral song. i hope that at least someone feels they know me.

end credits: “Scarborough Fair/ Canticle” by Simon and Garfunkel — now this is a fabulous closing credits song. doesn’t get any better than this.

This was a super fun meme. but then, i love music. if you’re reading this (and want to play), i tag YOU!

let me know you did it in the comments so i can be sure to check it out!
